going down the cellar stairs of his home, when making a misstep he fell
to the bottom. Lucinda realizing that he might have broken the pitcher
he carried, called out, "Asa, have you broken that pitcher?" Asa
somewhat mentally disturbed by her keen interest in the welfare of the
crockery, replied, "No, by G--, but I will." and suiting the action to
his words he threw it against the cellar wall.
