Col. John Stark
Bryant was Deputy Sheriff of Grafton County for several years, during
which time he took up the study of law. He was admitted to the bar at
Haverhill, N. H., in 1846, where he practiced law until his death in
1873. In his early life he was active in military affairs, becoming
Capt. of the Company of Volunteers, which office he resigned when he
moved to Haverhill.
He was a man of
agreeable and cheerful manners, kind and helpful to those in need. It
can be said of him that he was a self-made man. From the time he was
thirteen years of age he supported himself.
