While Baker Edwards was following the occupation of painter, he painted the spire of the First Congregationalist Church, Stoneham, Mass. this was then considered a daring feat. Because of ill health, he gave up painting, and learning the trade of shoemaking, which he followed until 1875, after which he conducted a barber shop and vapor bath business in Brockton.
