In the 1850 census, Joshua Bryant (shoemaker) and wife Delia were living in Casco (Cumberland) ME, Otis, age 7, living with them. Fernando, age 11, was also in Casco  in the household of Edmund Pinkham (his grandfather), and Alphonso was at the home of Joseph and Esther Greenleaf, a childless couple living in Otisfield.

The 1860 census lists the family in Stoneham (Middlesex County) MA. Joshua Bryant; the 2 older Pinkham boys are employed as cordwainers, and Otis as a cordwainers apprentice.
