1902; Stoughton MA, 1904 Charles Dickens Edwards at an early age learned the safe and lock manufacturing business, and later became senior member of firm, Edwards & Kershaw, Safe and Lock Manufacturers, Boston, Mass., a branch of which was established in Montreal, Que., under the name of Union Safe and Lock Co. Mr. Edwards was manager of the Montreal branch from 1857 to 1861, when Mr. Kershaw, a son of the original member of the firm, joined him, the name of the company being changed to Kershaw & Edwards, under which name the company operated until 1871, when Mr. Kershaw returned to Boston, and the name was again changed to C. D. Edwards which in 1885 became The Edwards Safe Co. Soon after he settled in Montreal, he became a naturalized Canadian citizen. Member of Royal Albert Lodge, AF&AM of Montreal Que Alice Hayward Edwards graduated from Brockton High School in 1902; and from Tufts College in 1906, receiving degree A. B. and election to Phi beta Kappa (Honorary) Fraternity. She received business training at Hickox Shorthand School, Boston MA. Her occupation: Teacher of Commercial Branches in Stamford (Conn.)
