Elmer Hewitt Capen graduated from Green Mountain Liberal Institute, and from Tufts College (1860) from which he received the degree A. B. St. Lawrence University conferred upon him the degree D. D. in 1879.

He was ordained as a minister in 1865, and became President of Tufts College in 1875.

He was President of New England Commission on Admission Examinations, Chairman of Massachusetts State Board of Education, served on various committees in connection with Massachusetts normal schools, for twenty years a Trustee of Universalist General Convention, and in 1888 a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

He was charter member of Kappa charge (1856) of Theta Delta Chi, and one of the organization members of Delta chapters of Massachusetts of Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity.

Samuel Paul Capen received the degree AM from Tufts College (1898) and from Harvard University (1900); the degree Ph. D. from the University of Pennsylvania (1902). He was formerly Professor of German, Clark College; now Specialist in Higher Education, U. S. Bureau of Education.

Member of Theta Delta Chi, and Phi Beta Kappa Fraternities; and National Institute of Social Sciences.

Ruth Paul Capen received the degree A. B. from Tufts College (1902). Member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.
